Emilio John "Casey" Casado, age 88, of Kincheloe, Michigan passed away Monday evening, June 20, 2011 at War Memorial Hospital.

Casey was born May 27, 1923 in Lorain, Ohio the son of the late Antonio and Mercedes (Gutierrez) from Madrid, Spain. As a young man, Casey spent time at the CCC Camps in Raco and Strongs. He joined the United States Marine Corps on November 30th, 1942 serving during World War II. He participated in the assault and capture of Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands where his regiment was involved in the first and second flag raising on Mt. Siribachi. He was wounded in action on March 3, 1945. Casey was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in action on Iwo Jima. He participated in action against enemy forces on Bougainville, British Soloman Islands, and also the capture and occupation of Villa La Villa, British Solomon Islands. Casey was medically discharged from the Military on October 23rd, 1945. He later re-enlisted in the Marine Corps September 25, 1950, and received an Honorable discharged June 20, 1951. On November 17, 1945, he married his childhood sweetheart Mary E. Jowett in Port Huron, Michigan and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past November. They continued to live and raise their family in Port Huron until 1975 where Casey fulfilled his dream of returning to the UP and opening a fishing resort, Casey's Resort, in Barbeau for over 30 years. Every week they would host a fish fry which gave Casey the perfect opportunity to be able to fish everyday which he continued to do even after they sold the resort.

Casey is survived by his wife: Mary E. (Jowett) Casado; four children: JoAnn (Roy) Gould of Apache Junction, AZ, Joseph (Susan) Casado of Newtown, PA, Patti (Dan) Grant of St Peters, MO, Angela (Lance) Brown of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; ten grandchildren, Ed Gould, Steve (Sara) Gould, Melanie (Jeff) Brown, Jenna (Brian) Rabberman, Carley Casado, Matt (Shannon) Grant, Katie Grant, Garrett Brown, Lauryn Brown, Kylie Brown and four great grandchildren, Madison Gould, Sierra Gould, Tevin Bartos, Kaden Grant .

He was preceded in death by his parents and his 8 brothers and sisters.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be sent to Donaldson Presbyterian Church, M-129, Sault Ste. Marie.

Casey will be dearly missed by his family as well as a host of friends and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
