Ronald A. "Ron" Stapley Sr., age 82, of Carey, passed away from this life to his heavenly home to be re-united with his wife, Virginia Stapley, to be together, side by side, again. He died expectedly on Friday, March 4, 2022, at home doing what he loved, caring for his property following a brief illness.
On November 15, 1939, Ron was born in Sycamore, Ohio, the oldest of five children of the late Clescent and Audry Mae (Stroub) Stapley. He was raised in Carey, where he graduated from Carey High School in the class of 1958.
Shortly following graduation, Ron was introduced by a good friend of his, Bob Peters, to Bob's sister, Virginia A. "Jeannie" Peters, and from there the rest is history. They were married on March 18, 1960. Together they "shared 60 years of marriage, which were the best years of his life. His love for her was endless." She preceded him in death on December 31, 2020, and there wasn't a day that went by that he didn't miss her dearly. Virginia was his everything in life.
Ron studied the electric trade at the Coin Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois, where he earned his degree in 1960. He worked as an electrician and electrical supervisor his entire 48 year career, working mainly for the National Lime and Stone Company in Carey, retiring in 2008.
Always tinkering on something out in his shop, Ron could figure out a way to build or fix anything he put his mind to. Some of his greatest achievements were building a windmill to help power his home, converting a Volkswagon Bug into an electric powered truck in the 1970's, and re-building an engine for an El Camino. He also enjoyed working on Go Carts, and Mini Bikes. Many of his projects he would rope his sons into, Ron Jr. whom he always called "the Boy", Steve, Kevin, and Jonathon. He truly could do it all…he was a great mechanic, carpenter, etc. He and his sons even built several additions onto their home.
With a love for the outdoors, Ron especially enjoyed going fishing with his family. His favorite holes to cast a line in were the Findlay Reservoir and the Limestone Lake. He looked forward to sitting outside on the swing with Jeannie, listening to the birds, watching traffic go by, and the entertainment across the road, with their dog, Heidi, by their side. He also enjoyed meeting up with Virginia's sister, Esther (Duane) Reynolds of Fostoria to talk, and catch up on current events over a cup of coffee and breakfast.
While Ron didn't share his feelings often, he always showed how much he cared by being the first one there to help if you ever needed help. He would do anything for his beloved family and friends. They also all knew to run and hide if Ron ever started laughing, which was his first reaction when something really upset him. You also never had to guess what Ron was thinking, because he wasn't born with a filter for his thoughts. He didn't say much, but when he did he called it just as he saw it.
Another of Ron's proudest achievements were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him much joy and happiness to his heart. His two great-granddaughters were especially the apple of his eye.
Left to cherish his memory are his six children: Ronald (Kimberly) Stapley, Jr. of Forest, Steve (Connie) Stapley of Alvada , Faith (Ken) Saul of North Port, FL, Kevin Stapley of Winston Salem, NC, Heather Stapley of Vanlue and Jonathon Stapley of Findlay; 8 grandchildren: Andrew (Ashley), Stephanie (Scott), Brandon, Codie, Autum, Zackarie, Austin, and Sarah; two great granddaughters: Paige and Payslee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services honoring his life will also be held there at 1 pm on Thursday, with Pastor Steve Sturgeon officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey.
