Edward Dean (March 1, 1811- August 3, 1884): Seventh son of Samuel F. Dean and Martha Kemp. He was born in Addison Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. He took for a bride Mary Ann Crawford in May of 1830, born in Ireland on March 19, 1812, the daughter of James Crawford and Margaret Hamilton Gillis both from Tyrone, Ireland. Edward and Mary Ann brought into this world nine children. Eight out of nine were born in Wharton Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Only Anabella was born in Henry Clay Township in Fayette County. The son Thomas Sebastian name kept changing in the census records from Thomas S. Dean, Sebastian Dean and Thomas B. Dean. This made it hard to trace him because there was another Dean, about the same age, who went by Thomas B. Dean. He was a glass blower and Sebastian was a Retail Merchant. The following are Edward and Mary Ann Dean's children:

1. Andrew Jackson (Nov. 1830- July 8, 1903) m. Elizabeth Riley
2. Martha Ellen (May 18, 1833 - November 29, 1863) m. William Yeast
3. Margaret (March 7, 1835 - February 9, 1910) m. Abraham Thomas
4. Edward J. (1838- January 17, 1895) m. Elisabeth Spiker
5. Mary J. (March 1840 -?) m. Jacob S. Anderson
6. Plebe (1842 –May 10, 1920) m. James M. Sullivan
7. Thomas Sebastian (June 6, 1844 - January 22, 1926) m. Ella Fisher
8. Sarah A. (May 14, 1848 - September 28, 1915) m. Henry Fisher
9. Anabelle Dean (March 30, 1850 - June 11, 1927) m. James Sease

Mary Ann Crawford, the wife of Edward Dean, preceded him in death on August 13, 1883. Two of her sisters (Sarah Jane and Margaret) married two of her husband's brothers (John and Charles). More about this subject will be contained in Edward's brother John Dean story. Both Mary Ann and Edward died in Henry Clay Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
