William Dean (January 1, 1808 - August 10, 1871): Fifth son of Samuel F. Dean and Martha Kemp. He was born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. He married Hannah Williams on March 6, 1836, by John Lenhart, Esq. in Ohio the daughter of Abram and Hannah Williams from New York. William's wife, Hannah, was born on October 5, 1817, in Pennsylvania. Hannah and William Dean were graced with five children:

1. Charles H. (October 28, 1838 - September 19, 1864)
2. Mary Ann (May 13, 1841- June 25, 1923) m. William Henry Swolley
3. James W. (July 1, 1843 – September 5, 1844)
4. Rebecca Bethilda (September 26, 1846 - August 20, 1909) m. Edward F Harper
5. Martha C. (June 19, 1848 - March 26, 1934) m. Benjamin Tripp

William Dean moved to Iowa soon after his marriage. They lost their last son Charles H. Dean killed in action on Sep 19, 1864, in the Battle of Winchester, Virginia. William died in Bertram, Linn County, Iowa on August 10, 1871and his wife Hannah died in October of 1894 in Audubon, Audubon County, Iowa.
