Death strikes Brewer Suddenly: Mourners gathered at the Hugoton Baptist Church Monday, Oct. 31, 1988 at 10:00 a.m. for a memorial service for Wilma May Brewer. The Hugoton homemaker died at the age of 70 Thursday, Oct. 27, at Stevens County Hospital as the results of a sudden illness. The daughter of Felix E. Whitaker and the former Rosa Etta Dunn, she was born May 20, 1918 in Tushka, OK. She moved to Hugoton from Weslaco, Tx. in the spring of 1943. She was a charter member of the Hugoton Baptist Church. On Aug 15, 1937 she married Morton M. Brewer in Weslaco, Tx. He survives her. Others mourning her death are two sons, Ron Brewer of Hugoton and Cokie Brewer of Dodge City; one daughter, Francene Stewart of Denton, Tx.; two brothers, Floyd D. Whitaker and Leon Whitaker of Weslaco, Tx.; one sister, Edith Salge of Boerne, Tx.; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Rev. Clifton Gunnels was in charge of the service. Pam Mills sang "When the Mists Have Rolled Away" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord" with Betty Jean Emberton playing the organ. Pallbearers were Larry Gillespie, Arlyn Hanquist, Neal Hadsell, Wilbur White and Vance Farrar. Phillips Funeral Home made the service arrangements with burial in Hugoton Cemetery. The family suggest that memorials may be made to the American Heart Fund or American Lung Association for research for asthma.
