Liebenthal -- Gerald A. "Jerry" Pfeifer, 65, Liebenthal, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at Hays Medical Center. Mr. Pfeifer was born Jan. 26, 1935, at Liebenthal.

He was an equipment operator and had owned Pfeifer Excavating and Ditching. He also worked at Rush County Highway Department and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 2340, both of Liebenthal, and Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus of Hays.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce of the home; two sons, Francis J. of Liebenthal and Mark A. of Hays; a daughter, Laura A. Leiker of Hays; a brother, Joe W. of Hays; four sisters, Florence Matal of Liebenthal, Caroline Stecklein of Alva, Okla., and Marie Schwartz and Elnora Schmidt, both of Great Bend; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Liebenthal, the Revs. Gervase Degenhardt and Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Liebenthal. The Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard at 6 p.m. Sunday. A parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. Sunday followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary with the Knights of Columbus Council 2340 and the Fourth Degree Knights. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine, Hays 67601.
