Francis was the son of John Kelly and Elizabeth Ford. He married Elizabeth Steffy on 18 August 1854 in Cedar county, Iowa. They were the parents of Fanny, John, James, Samuel, Charles, Noah, Minnie, Lucy, and Grace. He married 2nd Mrs Elizabeth Aldrich on 21 Jan 1892 in Cooper Center, Monona, Iowa. They were the parents of Frances.

June 10, 1909 p4 - Sac Sun - Francis Kelley died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Asa T Ellis, seven miles northeast of Sac City, on Monday June 7, 1909, after illness of three weeks with Bright's disease. The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon in the Presbyterian burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.

Mr. Kelley was a native of Michigan and his birth occurred on December 27, 1832, his death coming in his seventy-seventh year. He came to Iowa with his parents (John Kelley and Elizabeth Ford) in the early fifties and settled in Cedar County, August 18, 1854. He married Elizabeth Steffey, by whom there were born nine children. Eight of whom survive, namely: John B of Pierce, Ne; James of Crofton, Ne; Fannie, wife of A T Ellis; Samuel of Chicago; Charles W of Delton, Wisconsin; Noah living in Ca; Lucy, wife of Charles Zesieger of Boyer Valley township; and Grace, wife of J A Drury of Boyer Valley township. His daughter, Minnie Chaplin, preceded him in death.

Elizabeth died November 16, 1885, and afterwards he married (Frances Elizabeth), leaving a daughter Frances, about twelve years of age with her relatives at Mapleton, his second wife also being dead. He had thirty grandchildren and four great grandchildren. For fifteen years his home had been at Mapleton, but he came last March to live with his older daughter, realizing his life was nearing its close.
