OBITUARY - James Kelly died Friday morning, October 19, 1923 after a lingering illness with Bright's disease and complications of several months. He was aged 64 years, one month, and 25 days. The funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal church, the Rev. WE Ellison, Methodist Episcopal pastor at Nemaha, having charge of the services, assisted by the Rev EJ Plummer.
Mr. Kelly was united in marriage to Miss Anna M Moore on December 1, 1885. They made their home for a while in Douglas township. Seven children were born to this union, four daughters and three sons, all of whom, together with the widow, survive. His children are Clara, William R, Don, and Amy at home; Mrs. Cora F Nelson and Mrs. Mary Ruth Ahart of Crofton, Ne.; and Joe of Glenwood, Minn. He leaves also four brothers, John B of Foster, Ne.; Sam of Iota, Minn.; G W of Benson, Minn.; Noah of Portland, Ore; two sisters, (Lucy) Mrs. Charles Zesiger of Milford, and (Grace) Mrs. James Drury of Storm Lake, and one half-sister, (Frances) Mrs. Martin Drenkhahn of Danbury, Ia.
Mr. Kelly was a farmer all his life. Removing from Sac County soon after their marriage, the Kelly's located in Cedar County, where they lived 18 years, thence removing to White Lake, S Dakota. Here they resided two years, going thence to Crofton, Ne., where they spent six years, and to Benson, Minn. for 8 years. Returning to Sac county two years ago, they settled on a farm owned by Mr. Kelly's brother-in-law, James Drury. Here his death occurred. Burial was made in the Early Union cemetery.
