Benson Shannon Higgins died on March 1, 1933 at his home on Cadmus Street in East Liverpool. He was 67. Benson was born September 1, 1875 in Wellsburg, West Virginia, the son of John Dallas Higgins and Ella Vermillion.

He came to East Liverpool in 1904 and was a carpenter by trade.
He married Lucy Cusick Garner on April 3, 1895 in Wellsburg, West Virginia. They had two sons; Charles Shannon Higgins and Dallas R Higgins. Lucy died June 10, 1900.

On October 23, 1901, Benson married a widow, Nellie H. (Conaway) Taylor. Nellie had a daughter, Irene, from her first marriage. Together, Benson and Nellie had the following children; Paul A., Nellie E., Clara Virginia, Marie Alice, Leah P., Harry Raymond, Margaret Kathleen, Wilma Virginia, Benson L., and John Robert.

Besides his parents, Benson was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucy, an infant daughter, Clara Virginia, and several siblings.
He leaves his widow, Mrs. Nellie Higgins; six sons, Charles of Toronto, Dallas of Steubenville, and Paul, Harry, John and Benson, at home; a step-daughter, Mrs. Irene Jackson of Tiltonvllle; three daughters, Mrs. Leak Kelly, Mrs. Nellie Diddle and Mrs. Marie Wonders, all of East Liverpool, and Margaret and Wilma at home; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Wood and Mrs. Newton Hughes, both of East Liverpool, and two brothers, John Higgins of Buffalo, N. Y., and (half-brother) Clarence Higgins of Salem.

Funeral services were held in the family home that Friday. Rev. Oliver Atkinson, elder of Rochester Free Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. Ethel Hoyt, pastor of the Church of God and Rev. O. L. Benedum, pastor of the church of the Nazarene, officiated.

Burial was made in United Presbyterian Cemetery, Calcutta.
