Billy was among troops that were being lifted out of the war zone in the vicinity of Phouc Vinh, South Vietnam. While lifting out of the pick-up zone, the main rotor blade struck a tree on the right side of the aircraft, approximately 75' from the ground, and then nose-dived, rolled and crashed. Two men were injured; Five men, including Billy lost their lives.
