Charlotte A. Sly, 87 of Union Mills, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021.
She was born March 22, 1933 in Union Mills, to Justus and Marie (Brettin) Stephens. On November 3, 1951 she married Edgar Sly who passed away September 29, 2014.
Charlotte is survived by her children William Sly of Hanna, Barbara Bernethy of Michigan City, and Rita Ann (Dewayne) Westlund of Westville; ten grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Edgar, she was preceded in death by her son Raymond, her parents, and her sisters Katherine, Alice, Flaude, and Ruth; and her brothers Robert, George and Charles.
Charlotte was a professional clown known by many as “Foxy Sly” the clown. She was a member of Michiana Clowns in Michigan City, World Clown Association, Aluminum, Brick and Glass Workers International Union Local #188A, Hoosier Clan No. 14, Indiana Farm Bureau, O.E.S. #280 in LaPorte, Life Member of the Union Mills American Legion Auxiliary Post #295, Life member of the Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. Post #1130 in LaPorte, Helping Hand Club, and the Indiana Volunteer Fire Association Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 27th at Newhard Funeral Home, 58 W. Walnut St. in Westville. Burial will be in Union Mills Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 PM.
Memorials can be made to the Union Mills Conservation Club.
