Mae was the daughter of the late James and Johanna (Nelson) Spurlock. She was one of 4 daughters. She was survived by her sisters Reva and Carrie.

She worked hard to raise 11 children. She would work sun up till sun down baking, cooking, cleaning. They milked their own cows and she would make butter to sell to people from all around. She was the wife of a farmer and was a great seamstress.
