Jacobus Empey

Militia Rolls of Upper Canada, Major James Gray's Company, 10 Feb. 1789, given age 25, 4 years of service KRRNY.

Son of Philip Empey Sr., enlisted 15 Aug. 1777 and served in the First Battalion of Sir John Johnson's King's Royal Regiment of New York along with his brothers, and two cousins Adam and John Empey from Riemensnyder's Bush, Tryon County.

Jacob Empey married Elizabeth Rombough, daughter of Jacob Rombough U.E.L. Elizabeth died 15 May 1814, aged 47.

Jacob Empey brought an action against His Majesty's forces in Cornwall, Upper Canada in 1815 concerning the fact that being short of supplies, parties were sent to the farm houses in the neighbourhood in 1813 to remove and thresh the wheat found in their barns and send it to the mills to be manufactured into flour for the use of His Majesty's troops. Jacob brought an action for trespass, and succeeded in the action, recovering judgement for a substantial amount.
