John Crockett Cornwell, 86 of the Baptist Valley community of North Tazewell, VA passed from this life into God’s arms Friday, December 4, 2020.
Born May 23, 1934, in Russell County, VA he was a son of the late James T. and Myrtle Williams Cornwell.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Chapel in North Tazewell, VA for 15 years. He was an avid carpenter, fisherman, and hunter. He loved his family and loved the Lord.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Opal Hoback Cornwell; a daughter, Joanne Cornwell Little; nine siblings; and a grandson in law, Shawn L. Conklin.
He is survived by his daughter, Evelyn D. Hager of Tazewell, VA; grandchildren, Michelle Conklin and Martha Berry both of Tazewell, VA, Michael “J.R.” Hager and wife, Sabrina of Springville, VA; great-grandchildren, Renae Shifflett and husband, Scott of Glade Spring, VA, Hunter Infante’ of Abingdon, VA, and Zachary Taylor of Springville, VA; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Faye Rose, and husband, Sonny of Baptist Valley, VA and Margaret Phillips of Hickory, NC.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 2 PM Monday, December 7, 2020, at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA where funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM with Pastor Chuck Trent officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. The family asks that everyone who wants to come and visit please wear a mask and social distance when possible.
