Wasilla resident Gertrude W. Bellinger , 90, died July 12, 1998, at home. A private family service will be held and burial will be at Angelus Memorial Park in Anchorage.

Ms. Bellinger was born in Gladwin, Mich., on April 1, 1908, to Jacob E. and Clara (Parker) Wilford. She received her education in Gladwin County Schools. She attended County Normal for two years and also attended the University of Michigan for one year. She taught in the Gladwin County Schools from 1938 until 1948. Before World War II, she learned to fly, achieving her private pilot license. When the war started, private flying was curtailed, bringing an end to her flying career. In June 1948, she came to Alaska with her son, Don, to check out its possibilities and stayed. She worked for the Civil Service at Elmendorf Air Force Base from 1948 until 1970. After her retirement, she frequently drove from Anchorage to Michigan and back by herself until she reached the age of 79. She enjoyed gardening and bowling.

Ms. Bellinger is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Theresa Bellinger of Wasilla; granddaughter, Rhonda Ebert of Louisville, Colo.; grandson, Dr. Thomas Bellinger of Midland, Mich.; and five great-grandchildren. Arrangements were by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
