Gene was a member of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church in Gibsonville, and served in numerous ministries of the church over the years. He was active in the Senior Ministry, often volunteering as the “designated driver” for the group’s trips and outings.
Following school, he served in the United States Army for two years, being honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. He retired from the Western Electric Corporation in Burlington, North Carolina, after working there for 36 years.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy, 69 years, Gene is survived by his children, Dennis Chrismon (Bonita), Dale Chrismon (Lisa), Darlene Crump, and Diana Harvalias (Georgio).
Lovingly referred to as Papa, Gene and Dorothy have nine grandchildren: Matthew Fowler (Kelly), Seth Chrismon (Clara), Meagan Chrismon, Sarakate C. Loomis (Jordan), Ethan Chrismon, Leah Poole, Katelyn Chrismon, Dimitri Harvalias and Katerina Harvalias. They have two great granddaughters, Teagan and Riley Fowler. Gene is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by brothers, Jesse Chrismon, Loyd Chrismon, Pete Chrismon, Jake Chrismon, Golden Chrismon and Donnie Chrismon; sisters, Thelma Whitesell and Fleta Coltrance; a son-in-law, Tim Crump; and a grandson, Stelios Harvalias.
Eugene rested in state Sunday, September 6, prior to his funeral service at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church in Gibsonville. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
