Larry P. Hobbs (82), long time resident of Ahwatukee, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 15, 2020. He was born May 14th, 1937 in Vivian, Louisiana. He was the 12th child of the late Ernest and Edith (nee Bedingfield) Hobbs.

Larry joined the United States Army in 1956 and at the end of his enlistment was stationed at Fort Richie, MD where he met his wife Edna Trujillo who was a WAC. They married at Ft Ritchie chapel in August 1959, and then moved to Rustin, Louisiana. They moved to Southern California for the birth of their son, where they lived until 1972. Larry worked for Honeywell for many years and became the youngest Regional Manager for the Southwest. He attended Louisiana Tech and graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Cal State Fullerton.

The great adventure began when Larry accepted a job with Occidental Petroleum. He moved his family to Tripoli, Libya for a year and then to Spain where they lived until their return to the U.S. Larry settled his family in Phoenix, Arizona, while he continued his commute to Libya. In 1982 Larry and Edna moved back overseas, but this time to the jungles of Indonesia where he worked for Huffco. In 1986, after completing their world travels throughout Asia and Europe, they resettled in Phoenix.

Larry was not satisfied being semi-retired and he became a partner in a medical equipment business with friend Robert Andrew until his official retirement.

Larry was an active sports enthusiast beginning in childhood. He played baseball and football in high school, enjoyed fishing on Black Bayou Lake and also hunting. He always found a sports team to join wherever he lived and spent many years playing basketball, golf, softball, and tennis. In his later years he loved to play bocce ball and looked forward to weekly games with friends at the ARC. He was a season ticket holder for the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks and enjoyed sharing this fun with his family.

He is known for his intelligence, his wonderful stories, had a great sense of humor and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed music and dancing. His favorite music was country, but was also a fan of Creedence Clearwater, the Eagles and Gospel music. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and was happiest when surrounded by his family.
