He was born Jan. 13, 1939, in Springfield, the son of Orbra and Harriet Dupont Black . He married Linda Miller in 1961.
Mr. Black retired as a public works foreman from the city of Springfield in 1985 and was self-employed for several years. He was a member of Operating Engineers 965 and served as precinct committeeman.
Survivors: wife, Linda; seven children, Rick (wife, Tammy) Black of Quincy, Edward D. Black Jr. of Anna, James (wife, Kathy) Black of Auburn, Linda Harris of Riverton, Edward (wife, Patty) Black of Franklin and Davalie Silvy and Lauren (husband, Fred) Sqires, all of Springfield; stepdaughter, Tammy (husband, Pete) Hill of Quincy; 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Jenny Forsythe of Springfield; brother, Harold Black of Oregon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Staab Funeral Home, Dr. Reg Mills officiating. Burial: Oak Ridge Cemetery.
