We are called upon to note the death this week of an old and highly respected citizen of Clarion county in the person of Mr. Michael Over of Piney township who died last Friday, July 20th. Mr. Over was a brother of ex-Commissioner Over and was much esteemed by his neighbors and friends as an upright and conscien¬tious citizen. (Same issue) On the 20th day of July, 1888, at his residence in Piney township, Mr. Michael Over, aged 71 years, 3 months and 25 days. He was born March 25th, 1817, about one-half mile from his home on the old homestead now occupied by his brother Emanuel Over. Having been a good financier, very industrious and economical, he accumulated some means, which proved a source of great blessing to him, for he made a wise and right use of what he had. A man, very widely known and who had very few enemies, possessing so many traits of Christian character and true manhood that all who knew him could not help but love him as Jonathan did David, “as his own soul.” He will be missed in so many spheres of usefulness, in the family, in the church and in the community in which he lived. He united with the Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran church some 45 years ago, having been confirmed by Rev. Uhl and was a very consistent member during these many years. Faithful in the discharge of eve¬ry Christian duty and in the use of the means of grace, a very liberal and cheerful giver to all benevolent objects and interested in every department of the work of the church. A good citizen true to his word, honest in all his dealings, looking down upon any¬thing that would destroy character, that did not have for its object the amelioration of mankind. He died of a complication of diseases. He was buried at Mt. Zion Lutheran church on Sunday morning July 22d. It was said to be the largest funeral held at that place for many years. The pastor was assisted in the services by Rev. D. B. Lady of the Reformed church who made a few well-chosen remarks at the conclusion of the sermon based on I Samuel, 20, 18. “And thou shall be missed, because thy seat will be empty.” The deceased leaves a devoted wife and nine children to mourn his loss but their grief is his eternal gain.
