Christian Over settled in Licking Twp., Clarion Co., Pa. about 1802. He obtained 700-800 acres in a settlement act. He purchased the land for $6 an acre and received half that money back upon clearing the land. When he traveled from Franklin Co., Pa. to Clarion Co., Pa. he brought with him an axe, a shovel, a mattock, a gun, and a heifer. He later returned to Franklin Co., Pa. where he met and married his wife, Nancy Whitmer. They returned to Clarion Co., Pa. where they had sixteen children. He originally built a log cabin for his family and a furnace called Catfish Furnace. He later sold the furnace and went farming full-time.

The first services for the Mt. Zion Luthern Church were held in the log cabin of Christian Over located about 800 feet north of the present church building. Christian Over donated two acres of land for the church building and the church cemetery. The deed was dated and the congregation was incorporated on Jan. 25, 1847 for the Reformed and Luthern congregations. The cornerstone was laid on May 20, 1847; the building was dedicated on Dec. 12, 1847. Both the Reformed and Luthern congregations worshiped here until 1883 when the Reformed church built a building nearby. In 1910 the Reformed church disbanded and the remaining nineteen members joined the Luthern church.

The 1860 Census listed Christian Over, Sr., 78, farmer; Nancy Over, 69; Elizabeth Over, 33; Levi Over, 29. (1860 Pennsylvania Census, Clarion County, Licking Township, p. 215:63/63).

The will of Peter Witmer of Cocalico Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania was probated on Nov. 3, 1810. He mentioned the following children; Mary Witmer married Jacob Musselman; Elizabeth Witmer married Anthony Mellinger; Jacob Witmer; Nancy Witmer married Christian Over. Also a grandon: Jacob Witmer. The 1850 Pennsylvania Census listed Christian Over, 68, farmer; Nancy Over, 60; Amanuel Over, 28; Mary Over, 21; Esther Over, 8 months (1850 Pennsylvania Census, Clarion County, Toby Township)
