Emanuel Over, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Clarion County died Sunday morning May 31, 1903, at his residence at Callensburg, aged 81 years from infirmities of old age.
Mr. Over was born in Licking Township in August, 1821, and had always resided near the place of his birth. His father, Christopher Over, one of the pioneers of Clarion County, moved from Franklin County in 1803, and settled on a large tract of land near Callensburg, where he resided until his death in 1868, and on his farm reared a large family, all the members of which have passed away but one daughter, Mrs. Samuel Wilson, who resides in Rimersburg, Pa. Emanuel Over was a brother of Henry Over, father of Mrs. J. M. Guffey, of Pittsubrgh, and also the brother of John Over, the father of Judge J. W. Over of the Orphans Court of Allegheny County.
Mr. Over followed farming work all his life except three years he resided in Clarion while he was on of the Commissioners, being elected in 1884 for three years. After the expiration of his term he returned to his farm and remained there until he sold his farm to J. M. Guffey and located in Callensburg, where he had since lived a retired life.
Mr. Over was married to Miss Ann Kifer in 1850 and they have 6 children, as follows: Miss Alice Over who resides at home; Mrs. Amelia Elliott of Rapid City, S.D.; Mrs. Ada Shallenberger, wife of F. L. Shallenberger of Pittsburgh, who died in August of 1902; S.C. Over who resides in the west; David L. Over, of East End, Pittsburgh, and Miss Edith Over, who resided with her father.
Mrs. Over died in 1894. Mr. Over was a life-long member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church near Callensburg. In politics he was a Republican. Mr. Over has the esteem and respect of the citizens of the entire county.
