Sherley was born, November 17, 1944, in Columbia, Missouri, the daughter of George A. Crum, Sr. and Barbara (Johnson) Crum.
She was united in marriage to Sonny Hayes on December 8, 1995 in Kansas City and he preceded her in death on December 20, 1995.
Sherley was a 1962 graduate of Hickman High School.
She was a hard-working individual who obtained employment at the early age of 14 when she worked as a switchboard operator at Stephens College. Following her employment with Stephens College and after graduating high school, Sherley went on to obtain her LPN through Sinclair Nursing School in Columbia. This was the start to her long career with the University of Missouri hospital where she worked on the seventh floor in Pediatrics and worked as an LPN for over 28 years.
Sherley enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, selling Avon, playing scratchers, watching Wheel of Fortune and Walker Texas Ranger.
Sherley is survived by one son: James McBride Jr. of Columbia, MO; step child: Kelee Brown of Kansas City, MO; four sisters: Helen P. Derrick of Davenport, IA., Eunice Crum, Frances M. Bush, Dorothy E. Crum; one brother: William E. (Mary) Crum; all of Columbia, MO; eleven grandchildren: Keenan, Jamal, Jeremy, Contirria, Taikeyla, Nadia, LaShawnTay, Shawn Jr., Latoya, Lasaunta, and Traneshia; sister/friend: Margie Williams of Kansas City, MO; friend: Joan Head of Ashland, MO.
Sherley was preceded in death by her husband: Sonny Hayes; son: Shawn D. Soil Sr.; her parents: George A. (Buck) Crum, Sr. and Barbara O. Johnson Crum; two sisters: Delmarae Crum and Joyce Williams; two brothers: George “Doodle Bug” Crum Jr., and Herbert W. Crum Sr.; both maternal and paternal grandparents; seven aunts; four uncles; two nieces; one nephew; sister in law: Shirley R. Crum; and special friend Arthola Brown.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Parker-Millard Funeral Service & Crematory. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Second Baptist Church, 407 E. Broadway, Columbia.
Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
