There will be a celebration of Rodger's life on Sunday, October 13th from 2PM to 6PM at his son's home. Rodger will be inurned at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Beck Memorial Home in Bloomington is handling arrangements.
Rodger was born September 3, 1942 in Funks Grove Township to Irvin L. and Ruth E. (Brown) Van Note. He married Karen (Bleavins) Van Note in 1966 in Bloomington .
He is survived by five children, Sherry Barker, Brenda Barker, Richard (Carrie) Johnson, Michael (Terri) Van Note and Daniel (Jessi Allison) Van Note; eight grandchildren, Carrie Van Note, Heather Van Note, Matthew Van Note, Rebecca (Micah) Symmonds, Chris (Jenny) Johnson, Ashley Van Note, Annabel Dennison and Kyle Johnson; eight great-grandchildren Aliyah, Ayla, Ava, Makiya, Emberligh, Cameron, Addison and Isley and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Rodger loved fishing and caring for his lawn. He was a very particular man and took great care of his things. He also loved his family and spending time with them, including going on many trips with his brother, Gene.
He is a Vietnam veteran who proudly served his country from the years 1966-1970 in the United States Army reaching the rank of SP4. He received both the Good Conduct Medal and the Expert Rifleman Medal. Rodger worked over twenty-five years for Denny’s Donuts in Bloomington.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bloomington Normal American Legion Honor Guard.
