Janis was born May 24, 1928, in Saybrook, Ill., to Irvin and Ruth Brown Van Note. She was self-employed cleaning houses. She loved to collect antiques and Thomas Kinkaid items, loved gardening and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Janis married Simon Elmo "Mike" Montgomery on Feb. 14, 1967. He preceded her in death. Survivors include: two daughters: Susan Franklin of Bismarck and Azalea (Ray) Mecham of Forest Lake, Minn.; one son: Brian Montgomery of Bismarck; six stepchildren; three brothers: Albert "Gene" Van Note, Bobbie Van Note, and Roger Van Note, all of Bloomington, Ill.; 22 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Michael Shane Montgomery, and a brother, David Van Note, and a very special friend who is like a daughter, Frances Daugherty.
