Virginia L. "Ginny" Barr, 75, of Natrona Heights, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at Highland Center, Genesis Elder Care, Brackenridge, where she has been a resident the past six months.
She was born May 8, 1931, in Brackenridge, a daughter of the late Glenn E. and Lela L. (Kerr) Hilliard, and lived most of her life in Natrona Heights.
She was a homemaker and a 1949 graduate of Knox Girls School, Cooperstown, N.Y. She was a member of Abundant Joy Church, Tarentum, former member of the former Brackenridge First United Methodist Church, past president of the former Allegheny Valley Jayceehes Women's Division and member of the former Women's A-Glow, where she was a former president and worship leader. She enjoyed singing, crossword puzzles, TV game shows and was a poet and songwriter. Mrs. Barr was also a Sunday school teacher, choir member and soloist at her church.
Mr. and Mrs. Barr met in 1948, while Christmas caroling, and have been holding hands ever since. They were married Nov. 3, 1950, in Winchester, Va.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard W. Barr, of Natrona Heights; sons, Richard L. Barr and John M. (Angela) Barr, both of Homestead, Fla.; grandsons, Sean Barr and Jordan W. Barr; and granddaughters, Amanda and Natalie L. Barr, all of Homestead, Fla.; great-granddaughter, Catherine Lydia Barr, of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers, Glenn (Carmen) Hilliard, of Waldport, Ore., Larry (Irene) Hilliard, of Natrona Heights, and Richard (Patty) Hilliard, of Aberdeen, Md.; sisters, Catherine Jean Klingensmith, of Buffalo Township, Marjorie Barnes, of Hanover, Mary Margaret Heffner, of San Antonio, Texas, and Sally (William) Nevergold, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Hilliard, of Murrysville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert S. Hilliard; and four sisters, Helen E. "Betty" Dudek, Eleanor Plasick, Patricia Hill and Edith Scholl.
Relatives and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the DUSTER FUNERAL HOME, Tarentum, , where services will be 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Raymond E. Patterson, former pastor of Dayspring Christian Church, Tarentum, and the Rev. Robert Caridi, associate pastor of Abundant Joy Church, Tarentum, co-officiating.
Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery, Brackenridge.
