Robert S. Hilliard, 82, of Penn Hills died at 8:20 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 29, 2002) in UPMC Seneca Place, Penn Hills.
Born Oct. 15, 1919, in Pittsburgh, he lived in Penn Hills for a year, previously residing in Meadville and Fort Myers, Fla.
He was a graduate of Har-Brack High School.
A veteran, he served in World War II as a first lieutenant with the Army Air Corps in air offensives in the European Theatre. He received a Presidential Unit Citation, Distinguished Flying Cross and an Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. He later served as a recruiter.
Mr. Hilliard was an appliance salesman at Montgomery Ward, Meadville, for 30 years and at Sears, Sharon, for 10 years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fort Myers, an elder at Meadville Presbyterian Church, a senior member of the Ministerial Association of Meadville and past president of the Early Morning Kiwanis Club, Meadville.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lucille M. Wolford Hilliard; a son, Robert S. (Judith) Hilliard Jr. of Felton, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Alice H. (Martin) Lieb of Monroeville; three brothers, Larry Hilliard of Harrison, Glenn Hilliard of Waldport, Ore., and Richard Hilliard of Aberdeen, Md.; and six sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" (Adelbert) Dudek of Winfield, Jean Klingensmith of Cabot, Mrs. Virginia (Richard) Barr of Harrison, Marjorie Barnes of Hanover, Mary Margaret Heffner of San Antonio, Texas, and Mrs. Sally (William) Nevergold of Florida.
He also is survived by a grandson, Todd (Caroline) Lieb of Boston; a granddaughter, Carolyn H. Lieb of Providence, R.I.; and a great-grandson, Jackson R. Lieb of Boston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn E. and Lela L. Kerr Hilliard; and three sisters, Eleanor Plasick, Patricia Hill and Edith Scholl.
Relatives and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., 10th Avenue at Corbet Street, Tarentum, where services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Officiating will be the Rev. Kenneth White, pastor of Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church, Murrysville. Burial will be in Mount Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.
