Marjorie L. Barnes, 83, of Hanover, formerly of Brackenridge, died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at Homewood of Plum Creek Nursing Home, Hanover, Penn Township, York County. She was born March 26, 1924, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Glenn and Lela (Kerr) Hilliard. She is survived by her daughter, Judith (Walter) Porowski, of Hanover; grandson, Russell (Nancy) Porowski; and two great-grandchildren, Ben and Hanna, all of New Jersey; brothers, Larry (Irene) Hilliard, of Natrona Heights, and Richard (Pat) Hilliard, of Aberdeen, Md.; sisters, Mary Heffner, of San Antonio, Texas, and Sally (Bill) Nevergold, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Russell T. Barnes, who died Dec. 27, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Eleanore Plasick, Virginia Barr, Betty Dudek, Edith Scholl, Patricia Hill and Jean Klingensmith, and her brothers, Glenn Hilliard and Robert Hilliard. Margie worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for the former Barnes Service Company, Brackenridge, for most of her life. She enjoyed music, particularly opera, singing, crossword puzzles and visiting with her family. Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME INC., 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, where funeral ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Committal services and burial will follow in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Harrison Township.
