He served in the SeaBees during World War II, fought in the battle of Iwo Jima. He married his sweetheart, Katherine Mamales, on November 3, 1949; later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Wayne passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at his home after a lengthy illness. He resided at 327 East 5300 South in Murray, Utah at the time of his death.
As per Wayne's request, he was be cremated.
Graveside Services were held on Monday, October 8, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. in the Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery located at 2350 East 1300 South in the Foothill neighborhood of Salt Lake City, where his ashes were interred.
