Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, with visitation one hour prior to services Wednesday. Burial, with military honors, will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
Robert was born November 6, 1928 in Faribault, Minnesota, a son of William J. and Alice Leahy Van Wychen. He married Betty J. Openshaw on November 7, 1960 in Kansas. She preceded him in death on November 19, 2015.
Robert was a U.S. Air Force veteran during the Korean War. Following his military service, he was an electrician for 35 years with I.B.E.W., Local 145.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed watching football and golf, and was an avid Patriots fan.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Frank Westbrooks, East Moline; grandson, Robert Dillie, Geneseo; great-grandchildren, Connor and Kelsey Dillie, Geneseo; and many nieces, nephews, and other family.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters, Patricia Grass, Catherine Peterson and Clarice Babcock; and brothers, William, Donald and Francis Van Wychen.
