James N. Shepard


James N. Shepard, 99, Pomeroy, O., died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday at Holser Hospital, Gallipolis, O.

The son of Hartley and Susan Smith Shepard, he was born in Jackson County, Sept. 28, 1863.


Surviving are eight children, Mrs. Nora Gilmore and Mrs. Merle Jacobs, both of Pomeroy, O., Pearl Shepard of Sandyville, Ora Nobe of Belleville; Arlie Shepard of Rockport, and Mrs. Lorena Balderson, Mrs. Hazel Goodwin and Gilbert Shepard all of Parkersburg; 32 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Martha Belle Skinner Shepard, who died Nov. 20, 1917 and two daughters, Mrs. Roxie Gant and Ethel Shepard.


Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gates Ridge Church near Rockport. The body will be in state in the church one hour before the services. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
