Sister Joseph Angela was a teacher for 19 years, serving at Sts. Joseph and Paul School, Owensboro (1949-51, 1959-61), St. Denis School in Louisville (1951-59) and as a math professor at Brescia College, Owensboro (1963-70), where she was named a Distinguished Alumna in 2009. She was most known for her brilliance with financial matters. She served as treasurer and business administrator for the Ursuline Sisters from 1970-89, which included starting the retirement fund and the Mount Saint Joseph Picnic. She then served as chancellor and director of administration for the Diocese of Owensboro from 1989-2011. She also served on the Ursuline leadership Council from 1972-76, as well as numerous nonprofit boards. In August 2014, Boone Lodge at the Gasper River Catholic Youth Camp & Retreat Center near Bowling Green was named in her honor.
Survivors include the sisters of her religious community; three siblings, Teresa Marie Thompson of New Haven, Anna Catherine Keene of Louisville and Mary Josephine Dworzan of Orange, Calif.; nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Wednesday at 1 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
