Mr. Joe Latham Byrd, 77, a resident of Samburg, died Monday, September 24, 2018 at the V. A. Medical Center in Memphis.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 2 PM at the Cobbs Chapel Cemetery near Hornbeak with Leonard York officiating. Army burial detail Military Honors will follow.

Pallbearers will be Russell Downing, Kyle Berry, Drew Crews, Zach Crews, Gauge Downing, and Ryan Robertson.

Visitation will be on Saturday at White-Ranson Funeral Home from 12 noon until 1:30 PM.

The family requests memorials be made to: Reelfoot Youth Camp and Retreat Center, P.O. Box 736, Union City, Tennessee 38281.

Mr. Byrd was born on March 15, 1941, in Lexington, Mississippi, son of the late Oakley Moton and Clara Maude (Jordon) Byrd. He married Norma Louise Crews (Gantlett) of Samburg, April 10, 1972. She survives.

Mr. Byrd was a United States Army Veteran. He was owner/operator of Byrd's One Stop in Samburg from 1979 through 1983 and was also self employed with rental property. He was a member of the Lakeview Church of Christ, and he also volunteered his time in the Northwest Tennessee Correctional Complex Prison Ministry in Lake County for several years.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter Cheryl (Randy) Burrows of Ravenswood, WV; two sons Stephen Walls of Samburg, TN and Andy (Kim) Crews of Hornbeak, TN; two sisters, Freddie Farmer of West, MS and Sherry McClellan of Jackson, MS; a brother Sam Byrd of Cleveland, MS; grandchildren Christa Conn of Union City, TN, Chayra Watkins of Ravenswood, WV, Alyssa Robertson of Hornbeak, TN, Drew Crews of Jackson, TN, Zach Crews of Troy, TN, Russell Downing of Holiday, TN, and Kyle Berry of Chattanooga, TN, eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lana Jo Berry; four sisters; Frances Wynne, Dot Bunch, Alice Rainer, Geneva Byrd; three brothers Tucker Byrd, Tony Byrd, Bob Byrd; and an infant sister and infant brother.
