TUPELO – Robert Gerald “Bobby” Byrd, 65, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born May 22, 1939, in Lexington, Miss. to Moten and Clara Jordan Byrd. He had been a resident of Tupelo for about 20 years, moving from Lexington. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Lexington. He was a U.S. Army veteran and Mississippi National Guardsman and the former commander of the Am Vets Post 355. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a wonderful storyteller and conversationalist and enjoyed life to the fullest.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Gary Williams and Darryl Beard officiating. Burial will be Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Twinette Gale Byrd of Tupelo; his daughters, Regina Cunningham and husband, Larry, of Union City, Tenn., Penny Edington and husband, Larry Dale, of Tupelo, and Sherry Antes and husband, B.J, of Dallas, Texas; his step-children, Sheila Senter and husband, Scotty, of Fulton, Lee Wallace of Mantachie, Chevela Underwood and husband, Mark, of Tupelo; two brothers, Joe Byrd of Samburg, Tenn., and Sam Byrd of Cleveland; four sisters, Sherry McClellan of Ridgeland, Freddia Farmer of West, Alice Rainer and Francis Wynn, both of Lexington; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Tony Byrd and Oakley Lamar Byrd; and a sister, Geneva Byrd.

Pallbearers will be his close friends.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before services on Monday at the funeral home.
