Note: Birth & Death info provided by Marilyn James

Charles Harkless Curless was born on August, 6, 1890 in Garden City, Kansas. He was the son of Abner Butler Curless and Lucy Jane Quinn-Curless. His paternal grandfather was Harkless Carl Curless, who he undoubtedly got his middle name from. His maternal grandfather was Charles Elihu Quinn. Charles likely took his first name from him.

He had been a farmer in his early years, but faced with the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, he turned to becoming a carpenter/cabinetmaker. Charles married Flossie Elvina Barnes, daughter of Frank Douglas Barnes and Viola Marie Mourn-Barnes-Jewell. They divorced and Charles married Mary Hazel Nearhood. He died on September 14, 1968 in Hutchinson, Kansas.

His children by Flossie were Elmer, Rev. Vernon, Clayton, Ethel, Thelma, Louise, Alvin, Viola and my grandmother, Fern. One of them is still living.
