Darlene was born on March 24, 1935, to Frederick Lafayette (Lafe) and Inez Amelia (Williams) Iverson and was the youngest of 14 children. She was born in Timmer, ND, and later moved to Mandan with her family, where she attended school. After that she worked as a carhop at “The Hut” where she met her future husband, Glenn Hoovestol. She and Glenn were married on January 28, 1955, and the couple made their home in New Salem, ND.
Darlene’s occupations included working as a switch board operator for Bell Telephone, she and Glenn operated the first organized school bus route in New Salem and continued to run buses for many years. They also owned Hoovestol Auto Parts and Hoovestol Motel and Darlene also worked at several restaurants throughout the years. She was an active member of Peace Church, serving on the church council and singing in the church choir.
Her many talents included cake decorating, oil painting, ceramics, and cooking. She was a wonderful hostess, always having a pot of coffee or meal ready for anyone who stopped by.
Most important to her was her faith in God and her family who will carry the memories of her as a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Left with many fond memories of a life well lived are her four children, Greg (Kathy) Hoovestol, Fargo, Renae (John) Adams, Bismarck, Grant (Laurie) Hoovestol, Carter Lake, IA, and Jody (Gerry) Netzer, Mandan; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her husband’s twin daughters, whom she loved dearly, Pat (Lester) Feland and Penny (Francis) Pulver.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson, Gustin Hoovestol; all of her siblings; and her parents.
