MRS. MINERVA CAMPBELL ANSWERS DEATH'S CALL
Splendid Woman Passes Away Early Today – Funeral Wednesday
Mrs. Minerva Campbell, 86 years of age, widow of Clinton Campbell, and one of Johnson county's best known and most beloved women, died at the home of her son, Lon Campbell, on West Madison street here this morning at 4:00. Death resulted from pneumonia.
The body has been removed to the home of her eldest son, Dr. J. L. Campbell, 200 West Madison street, where funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 in charge of the Rev. Joseph L. Stout. Burial will be made at Nineveh cemetery.
Mrs. Campbell's husband died about forty-two years ago and she had since made her home with her son, Lon. The children surviving are Lon Campbell and Dr. J. L. Campbell of Franklin, Alex Campbell of Ripley county, Dan Campbell of Emporia, Kansas, Edward Campbell of Pensacola, Florida, and Mrs. Mary J. Myers of Franklin and Mrs. Olive A. Poling of Hanks, North Dakota. Three sisters also survive. They are Mrs. Crush Hurdle of Brown county, Indiana, Mrs. Miranda Petro of New Mexico, and Mrs. Carrie Rhude of Worthington, Ind.
Mrs. Campbell was born in Ohio, September 29, 1836. She came to Indiana many years ago, and had lived the greater part of the time since then at Edinburg. She moved here with her son's family three years ago from Edinburg. She was a member of the Methodist church at Edinburg and was a woman of remarkable Christian character. NOTE - Spouse Link: The James 'Dewitt' Campbell buried in Brown Co IN is believed to be James CLINTON Campbell. There is no record of a James 'Dewitt' Campbell. Clinton died sometime before the 1880 census (Minerva was a widow on the 1880), the age is right, the location of burial is right. We believe the stone is wrong in naming him Dewitt instead of Clinton.
