Elizabeth A Wood died April 11, 2012. She was born Aug 2, 1924, to Floyd and Alice Myrtle Cook, the second youngest of eight children.
She was predeceased by her brothers Donald, Gerald and Daniel; her sister Verna Cook Squires; her son Byron Pitts; and husband Leon Wood.
She is survived by her daughter, Colleen Wood Mace; her son-in-law, Richard Mace; grandson Adam Mace; and granddaughter-in-law Claire Mace, in addition to her siblings James (Louise), Keith and Margaret Cook Love.
She was a graduated of Jimtown High School and Fort Wayne Methodist School of Nursing. As a registered nurse, she worked in Goshen Hospital and St Margaret’s Hospital in Hammond.
She was active in the “Save the Dune” organization, which created the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
She and her husband Leon retired to Cherokee Village, Ark.
After his death, she moved back to the Elkhart area.
She was a member of Arkansas Extension Homemakers Council and volunteered with a reading program in Elkhart.
She wanted to be remembered as a caring person.
In lieu of flowers, please read to a child and then go get an ice cream at Dairy Queen together.
There will be a graveside service held for Elizabeth Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Olive Cemetery East at 1:30 pm Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.
