Thelma Lowery McGee, age 93, of Marion, went home to be with her Lord and her family members that preceded her on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007. Mrs. McGee was born in Mitchell County on June 10, 1913 to the late John A. Lowery and Lula Biddix Lowery. She was a lifelong and oldest living member of Turkey Cove Missionary Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Crossnore Boarding School in an era when few women were able to accomplish that goal.

Preceding her in death were her husband Clarence "Monk" McGee; son, Danny McGee; sisters, Cora Hollifield, Dusky Cresawn, Pauline Boyd, Faye Biddix, Edith Fisher and Nell Simmons; and brothers, Bascum Lowery and Garrett Lowery.

Left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Karen White and her husband, Cal, of Marion; daughter-in-law, Zelda McGee of Hickory; granddaughters, Dana Haynes and husband, Skip, of Morganton, Donna McGee of Hickory, Sherrie Smith and husband, Winfred, of Marion, Angie Rikard and husband, John, of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Landon and Rosemary Haynes, C.J. McGee, Joshua and Thomas Smith; and many treasured nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Turkey Cove Baptist Church with Rev. David Edwards and Rev. Scott Hollifield officiating. The family will receive friends today, Jan. 3, 2007 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home. Interment will be in Turkey Cove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 31 College Place, Suite 3-320, Asheville, N.C. 28801. An online register is available under OBITUARIES at www.westmorelandfuneralhome.com.
