Neoma Florence (Galey) Keller, 92, passed away at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO Sunday evening, April 30, 2017. Florence was the second of five daughters, born to Floyd and Sarah (Timmons) Galey on July 17, 1924 in Frankfort, Indiana. As she began to talk, her Dad gave her the nickname “Dutch,” which stuck with her throughout her life.

Florence graduated from Frankfort High School where she was a versatile athlete. At 18 years of age she moved to Indianapolis to pursue a career, working for P.R. Mallory for 23 years and where she met her future husband, Robert. She also worked nearly 25 years at Western Electric on Franklin Road, where she was an enthusiastic and tireless volunteer for the Telephone Pioneers of America. She especially enjoyed her volunteer work with children from the Indiana School for the Blind and Special Olympics, as well as bingo nights at area nursing homes. Always active, Florence enjoyed horseback riding, square dancing, bowling, golf and playing cards for fun. After retiring, her greatest joy was caring for her two granddaughters and including them in her daily activities.

Throughout her adult life in Indianapolis, she was an active member of Englewood Christian Church, where she served more than 50 years in the church’s Cradle Role ministry, sharing her love and care with the youngest church members over three generations. After moving to Kansas in 2005 to be close to family, she attended Blue Valley Baptist Church in Overland Park, where she found a warm and supportive second church family.
Florence spent the next decade caring for both her great-grandchildren on weekdays until they started elementary school. “GiGi” taught them their letters and numbers and introduced them to Jesus at a very young age. She remained active all of her life, and most recently enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, Facebook, and computer games . . . but most of all her family.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, Robert Keller, and sisters Mary Smither, Thelma Pickering, and Dazie Bland. Survivors include son, James (Robin), granddaughters Erica (Ryan) Bier and Jessica Keller, great-grandchildren Emma and John Bier, sister Barbara Snell-Cochran, and half-sisters Leanna (Charles) Thomas, Polly (Jean) Galey, Molly Galey, Colleen (Sam) Samii, and Terri (Bud) Vaughn, sister-in-law Joan (Robert) Juday, and numerous nieces and nephews.
