Mrs. Rosa Surfus, widow of William Surfus of Allen County, south of Auburn, died at the age of 76 in the Dr. Bonnell M. Souder hospital at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Mrs. Surfus suffered a stroke a week ago and was admitted to the hospital about 12 hours before her death.
The body was removed to the Gerig funeral home in Auburn for burial preparations and will remain there for funeral services which will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Cedar Chapel cemetery. The Rev. J. L. Neischwander, pastor of the Leo Met-odist church, will officiate at the services.
Born at Leo in Allen county, on Feb. 28, 1879, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Esther Kistler. Mrs. Surfus was a lifelong resident of Allen county.
On Nov. 24, 1898, she and Mr. Surfus were married. Her husband preceded her in death.
The couple resided eight miles south of Auburn on state road 427 for many years before she moved to Leo about a year ago.
Surviving are eight children, Leonard Surfus of Rt. 1, Grabill, Ralph Surfus of Rt. 1, Auburn, Walter Surfus of Rt. 13, Fort Wayne. Mrs. Mildred Hefty of Rt 2. Auburn, Jesse Surfus of Rt. 1. Auburn, Mrs. Dora Houser of Rt. 2. Auburn, Ernest Surfus of Pleasant Lake, and Mrs. Grace Bender of Rt. 1, Grabill; 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Surfus was a member of the Dutch Ridge Reformed church.
