Thelma Ziegler was born 99 years ago on January 12, 1918 in Emmett, Idaho to Myron and Kate Warwood Whiteley within days after her mother and three older siblings arrived on the train from Burley to join their father. Joining them on the train was a cow, a horse and a few pieces of furniture. The family lived on their 40 acre farm at Little Rock Road and Hwy 16. They were joined by six more brothers and sisters.

Thelma attended Falk, Bramwell and Letha Schools. She completed her GED in her adult years. She married James Ziegler of New Plymouth on October 31, 1935 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in New Plymouth. They were married 62 years.

Jim and Thelma farmed in the Notus/Parma area until 1945 when they moved to Bend, OR where Jim worked at Shevlin Hixon Mill until 1950 when they returned to Emmett where she has resided since in the home they built together on First Street.

Thelma was the fourth of ten children: Alvah, Helen (Mel) Vickery, Floyd (Glenydene), Marie (Ag) Arrizabala, Vera Benge, Eldon (June), Roy (Marlyn), Evelyn (Gene) Atkinson and Virginia (Hank) Ombach. Thelma is survived by her sister, Virginia Ombach, of St. George, Utah; her three daughters, Leora (Dan) Mabe of Eagle, Marilyn (Louis) Warren of Emmett and Judith (Larry) Ripley of Eagle; nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Her husband, James, preceded her in death in 1998, as well as eight of her siblings.

Thelma was a faithful and very active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Emmett, attending daily Mass until the last couple of years. She contributed to the community and state she loved, serving many years on the Emmett election board and the American Cancer Society statewide. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Squaw Butte Ramblers Good Sam Club.

One of the greatest joys in her life in recent years was the visits and love received from her numerous nieces and nephews and her children and grandchildren. Thelma lived independently in her own home until November 15, 2016 when she moved to Grace Assisted Living in Boise.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Grace Assisted Living and to Harrison's Hope Hospice for the wonderful care and love they bestowed on her and her family.

Requiem Mass will be held Saturday, April 8th at 10:00 AM with the Rosary recited at 9:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emmett (211 East First St.). Visitation will be Friday, April 7th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Potter Funeral Chapel (228 East Main St. Emmett).
