The last of ten children of Harvey Day Pearson (1776-1830) and Lydia Holden (1781-1857), Simon married his first cousin Amelia (Milly) Holden in 1839 in Washington Parish, LA. The couple had eleven children. They lived initially in Hancock Co MS and then in St. Helena Parish LA. His death in Slaughter LA in 1887 suggests that they had moved there after 1880 (when they are in St. Helena). In 1900, his widow was back in St. Helena living with the family of one of their sons, James (Jim).

The 1850 census shows the family farming in Hancock MS; they have four children and live next door to Milly's brother Simon and his family. In 1860 and 1880, they are in St. Helena with eight children. In 1880 in St. Helena, Simon and Milly are farming and have four children at home.

Simon joined the Methodist Church in 1873. He served two elected terms as Sheriff of St. Helena Parish and was also a Mason. He is buried next to his wife in Allen Cemetery in Tinus, LA.
