LIFELONG RESIDENT OF QUAD-CITIES, JOSEPH BEIDE DIES SUDDENLY

Joseph Beide, 67, of 2430 Madison avenue, a lifelong resident of the Quad-Cities, died suddenly of a heart attack shortly after 3 p.m. Monday. He was stricken at his home and was pronounced dead after being taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital.

A native of Mitchell, Beide was overseer at an East St. Louis apartment house until retiring. Earlier, he had worked at the American Steel Foundries, and was one of the first members of the CIO union in this area. He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Beide; three daughters, Mrs. Louise Hutchings of Granite City and Mrs. Elsie Recker and Mrs. Marie Roche, both of Chicago; one son Joseph Beide, Jr. of Chicago; two brothers, John Beide of Granite City and Arthur Beide of Glen Carbon; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Hoelter, Mrs. Catherine Grolmes, Mrs. Clara Warden and Mrs. Agnes Zimmer, all of Granite City and nine grandchildren.

Services at 8:30 a.m. Friday, June 4, from Pieper Funeral Home, 1929 Cleveland boulevard, Granite City, to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Edwardsville, Township.

Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Pieper's.
