John Clinton Wilson was the son of Lewis F. Wilson and Ellen Bodkin. He was born in Fayette county, Ohio. Lewis moved his family to Dade county, Missouri in the 1840's.
John married Mary Jane Bates, daughter of Owen Bates and Hannah Penn, in Missouri in 1853. They moved to Colorado in the early 1860's and moved back to Missouri a few years later. John and Mary moved to Colorado and settled permanently in Florissant, Colorado in 1874. They had a ranch just west of the town.
John and Mary had 8 children: Julius, Calas, Mary Ann, John, Jane, Elizabeth (Betty), Dora, and George.
