Charles Herkert, 100, of 2105 S. Washington Ave. died at 11:07 p.m. Monday at Marshfield Living Center, where he had been a resident since Sept 22, 1983.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Peter J. Leketas will officiate. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Helen Brinkmann will be organist for the Men's Trio.
Pallbearers will be Ruben, Robert, James, Lawrence, and William Herkert, and John Smrecek.
Visitation will be at Rembs/Kundinger Chapel after 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday until time of services. Sacred Heart Prayer service will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
He was born Nov. 16, 1887, in Marshfield, to John J. and Friedarika A. Herkert. He attended St. John's Parochial School. He was never married.
At the age of 12, he began working at Upham Manufacturing Co. At 16, he worked for Roddis Lumber & Veneer in the long yard operating the log-sorting jammer and crane operator. He retired in 1959. He was honored in 1987 on his 100th birthday.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. He was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, St. Hubert's Society and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America Local 1733, and a former member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
