BLANKENSHIP, Ruth Sublett, 76, slipped away from her family into the arms of her loving Savior on Sunday, June 29, 2003. Having been born and raised in Montcalm, West Virginia, she was predeceased by her parents, Ella Hamblin Sublett and Samuel William Sublett; four brothers, Claude, Lewis, Herbert, Harry; and a sister, Maxine. Ruth is survived by her husband of 57 years, Estill C. (Shorty) Blankenship. She is also survived by two daughters, Patricia (Patty) Wells and husband, Troy D. Wells, and Sandra Townsend and husband, Philip A. (Andy) Townsend. Six of the joys of her life were her grandchildren, Travis Wells and wife, Chandra, Scott Townsend and wife, Laura, Kimberly Little and husband, Kelly, Josh Wells, Jeremy Wells, and Jason Wells. She was also blessed by four great-grandchildren, Heather and Hailey Little, Andrew Townsend, and Meredith Wells. Six sisters also survive Ruth, Amy Quillen, Eunice Robinette, Myrtle Arthur, Wanda Gills, Ida Mae Clay, and Eldora Fleeger. Ruth is also survived by two brothers, Rowland and Mark. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom were very dear. One of the most important facets in Ruth's life was her church, New Life Temple, where she had been a faithful member for over fifty years. The funeral will be at Oakey's North Chapel on Wednesday, July 2, at 11 a.m. Rev. Walter L. Wood and Rev. Larry E. Sprouse will officiate. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will meet with guests for visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, at Oakey's North Chapel and other times at the home of her daughter at 151 Murray Court, Roanoke.
