V. Deane Clingman, age 85, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, August 01, 2016, at the Washington County Hospital following complications of a stroke.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August, 4, 2016, at the Faith Baptist Church in Washington, Iowa, with Pastor Jim Fleming officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 Wednesday evening. Interment will take place at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in rural Hedrick, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Faith Baptist Church or Child Evangelism Fellowship (C.E.F.) Verle Deane Clingman was born January 13, 1931, in Jefferson County, Iowa, the son of Ira and Genevieve (Bennett) Clingman. He attended country school in rural Jefferson County and attended Packwood High School. Deane was united in marriage to Shirley Mae Gibson on November 5, 1950 in Hedrick, Iowa. Shirley died on September 23, 1968. Deane was married to Lucille Wenger Roth on July 13, 1969, in Burlington, Iowa.

Deane worked as a telegraph operator for the Milwaukee Railroad in Missouri. Upon returning to Iowa, he worked as a salesman for Graber Home Improvements in Washington, Iowa.

Deane was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Washington. He and Lucille enjoyed traveling and volunteering their time on several different mission trips, including C.E.F. Deane was an avid collector of H.O. trains and enjoyed collecting buttons, hats and train memorablia. He enjoyed building houses and assisting his sons in their building projects.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille Clingman of Washington, Iowa; son Larry Clingman and wife Dee of Nashville, TN; son John Clingman and wife Rebecca of Castle Rock, CO; daughter, Denise Donndelinger and husband Vince of Twinsburg, OH; daughter, Patricia Peters and husband Ken of Sunrise Beach, MO; son Terry Roth and wife Brenda of Grand Island, NE; and son Mike Roth and wife Teri of Washington, Iowa. Deane is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Deane was preceded in death by his parents; wife Shirley; and five sisters: Eunice White, Edith Owen, Vera Hill, Lila Lewis and Sylvia Nicola.
