Ira Clingman married Genevieve Bennett on February 5, 1913 at the Packwood Methodist Church. They lived on a farm southwest of Linby for several years and moved to Linby in 1935. Ira and Genevieve celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on February 5, 1963 with an open house at their home in Linby, Iowa hosted by their children. Ira was a farmer and later a carpenter. He was a member of the Linby Baptist Church. In 1959, Ira was the carpenter, who, with many men of the community volunteering, built a new church after the original church burned down.
Ira and Genevieve were the parents of one son, Deane Clingman, Washington, Iowa; five daughters: Eunice White and Lila Lewis, both of Linby; Edith Owen, Crawfordsville; Vera Hill, Batavia; and Sylvia Nicola, Albuquerque, New Mexico; and 21 grandchildren.
Ira's brothers and sisters were: George of Hedrick, Clarence of Packwood, Mrs. Lucy (Clarence) Book of Packwood, and Mrs. Edith (Ivan) Graham of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Ethel (Leroy) Smithart, brother Harry, of Los Angeles, California, and an infant brother.
Ira Clingman was also survived by several relatives from Washburn, Illinois including Mr. and Mrs. Eilert Weers, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Peabody, Mr. and Mrs. George Eilts and Roger, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Peabody and Billy Privitt of Osgood, Missouri.
From a sympathy card sent by Billy G. Privitt: "In sacred memory of the good times spent in your home and to a Father of a wonderful family. Mr. Clingman will not leave a million dollars of the world's goods to his family, but he leaves a million dollar family to this world, which will be a most valuable gift at The Eastern Gate In The Morning."
