Thanks to Terri & Stan for the following:

Tommy Wilbert Everson, age 78, of Akron, died peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on March 8, 2012 at Summa Akron City Hospital Acute Palliative Care after a long, brave battle with colon and bladder cancer. The thirteenth of 17 children, he was born on March 6, 1934, in Belington, WV, the son of the late Roy and Madge (Wagner) Everson. After relocating to Akron to pursue a career in transportation, Tommy married his sweetheart Veronica (Toots) Varhoe on December 12, 1955.

Tommy was a member of Teamsters Local 24. Over his 30-year career, he was a dock worker for Dixie Ohio Express, and a truck driver for Great Lakes Express, and then for Branch Motor Freight, until he retired in 1985.

A soft-spoken man who was prone to belly laughs and a mischievous grin, Tommy enjoyed hunting and telling stories with his buddies at his cabin, watching CNN, Ford trucks, doing word searches, and early morning walks in the woods. He especially enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who knew that bright red apples and Hostess treats were always up for grabs when visiting his home.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Veronica; daughters, Teresa (Chuck) Perkins of Cambridge, OH and Pam (Jim) Beltz of Akron; son, Ronald (Susan) of Irmo, SC; grandchildren Brian Everson of Akron, Kristin (Jack) Miller of Orlando, FL, Brenden Everson of Norfolk, VA and Kevin Beltz of Orlando, FL; and great grandchildren, America Everson and Wyatt Miller. Tommy is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Madge Everson and his siblings Homer, Gladys Booth (Jake, deceased), Virginia Wilmot (Raymond, deceased), Russell (Delta, deceased), Ruby, Virgil, Billie (Mildred), Denzel (Carol), and Don (Nina, deceased). He is survived by his siblings Mary Nell Wilmoth (Oral, deceased), Helen Ketchem (Don, deceased), Bert (Sandra), Raymond (Brenda), Cecil (Roberta), Kathern Foy (Loye), and Geneva Poe (Allen, deceased). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives scattered across the county.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 12, 2012 at Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home, (811 Grant St) at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Deborah Damore officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2012. Tommy will be interred at Hillside Memorial Park, 1025 Canton Road, Akron, OH. Thanks to Dr. Trochelman and staff and the Cooper Cancer Center Staff; thanks to the Acute Palliative Care Unit Staff for their kindness and compassionate care during his last days; and thanks to Chaplain Deborah Damore and her Pastoral Care Services Team. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Summa Acute Palliative Care, Summa Pastoral Care Services, or Cooper Cancer Center (all at address 525 East Market Street, Akron, OH 44304-1619).
