William H. Sprenkle, principal for nearly 40 years of the Pittsburgh High school and husband of a former Yorker, Gertrude Frey Sprinkle, died Friday at their home in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was 74 years old. Word of the death was received by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Gorman Blasser, 722 West King street, and a brother-in-law, Ivan E. Frey, Stony Brook. Mr. Sprenkle was a graduate of Gettysburg college and was principal of the Pittsburgh school from 1909 until his retirement because of ill health in 1948. Besides his widow, he leaves two sons, William H. Sprenkle, Jr., Andove, Conn., and Robert L. Sprenkle, Rochester, N.Y.; two daughters, Mrs. Esther Hilderbrand, Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Margaret Edmunds, Washington, Pa.; a brother, Chester Sprenkle, Lewisberry, and a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Wills, Newport, Ore. The body will arrive in York tomorrow afternoon at the Henry Sleeger and Sons funeral home.
